We are thrilled to present the BioArt exhibition “Jordsans” by Danish artist Maria Viftrup, curated by Jordens Hus (DK). The exhibition invites visitors to rediscover and deepen their connection to the earth through a unique, immersive experience.
Jordsans,” opening on August 24, 2024, at 13:00, is more than just an exhibition—it is a journey into the heart of the soil. Viftrup has crafted a ‘SoilSense Training Center,’ where individuals of all ages can engage directly with the earth, exploring its crucial role in our ecosystem. The exhibit prompts us to consider: Do we truly understand the soil beneath our feet, or is it a sense we can cultivate?
The exhibition begins in the garden, where guests are encouraged to gather pieces of nature, which they will later use within the “SoilSense Training Center.” Here, you can give or receive a SoilSense treatment designed to enhance your connection to the earth. Visitors can also delve into the archive of methods and materials contributed by 30 Nordic researchers, artists, and farmers—dubbed the ‘Professional SoilSensers’—who have shared their knowledge and sensory experiences. In addition, a laboratory allows guests to examine local soil, breaking it down into its fundamental components.
One of the key features is the “Soil Spa,” where visitors can lie down on a specially designed table as soil and organic materials are applied to their bodies. This sensory experience is heightened by a unique helmet that tunes out distractions, allowing for a deep connection with the earth. Outside in the garden, you can immerse yourself in one of Maria Viftrup’s “SoilView” sculptures, training your senses to find the extraordinary in the seemingly ordinary soil.
Maria Viftrup’s work is an exploration of the magical world just beneath our feet, where art, science, and agriculture intersect. The active participation of visitors transforms them into co-creators, helping to unfold the complexities of the earth. “Jordsans” is a meeting point and an exchange between these disciplines, aiming to renegotiate our understanding of nature through sensory experiences.

Maria Viftrup continues to challenge our perceptions of nature by creating sensory experiences that blur the lines between art and experimental design. Her works encourage curious dialogues between people and materials, inviting us to re-evaluate the value and aesthetics of often overlooked materials.
